This photo shows the Sun setting directly behind Cabezon Peak. Astronomer Rick Fienberg captured this view from his home in Placitas on July 2, 2026, when the PeakFinder mobile app predicted the alignment. He used a Canon EOS Rebel T3 digital single-lens-reflex camera at ISO 400 attached to a 6-inch (150-mm) telescope with a focal length of 945 mm (f/6.3). The image is a composite of two exposures: one at 1/30 second that overexposed the Sun but nicely captured the mountain and sky, and another at 1/1600 second that showed the Sun and sunspots better. With our daytime star at the horizon on a hazy day, it was dimmed sufficiently by Earth’s atmosphere to enable photographing it without a solar filter.
